Lewisham Shopping Centre, London
The opportunity to create something special in Lewisham.
A new green district with a family park and wild meadow at its heart, sat on the rooftop of the new Lewisham Shopping Centre. Buzzing with places to gather, shop, play, eat, sing, dance, relax, live, and work. Providing thousands of much-needed homes and jobs, and pumping £160m into the local economy every year.
A green vision for Lewisham shaped by the people, that could only
happen here.
A wild meadow will sit at the heart of a new public rooftop park as part of a vision to completely revamp a major part of Lewisham town centre. The new park and meadow, bigger than a football pitch, will sit on top of the current 1970s Lewisham Shopping Centre and reimagine it as a new town centre alive with places to gather, shop, play, eat, sing, dance, relax, live, and work.
Almost half of the new district will be open, public, green space with over 300 new mature trees, thousands of plants and shrubs, three public squares and much-needed community facilities.
A completely pedestrianised high-street full of independent food and drink outlets will open out onto the lush park and meadow, open all day and into the night. Al fresco dining, public events and social gathering will all be in the melting pot of this new centre for Lewisham which will also be home for thousands of people. With 1,700 homes 20% of which will be affordable, 660 student beds and 445 co-living residences.
The revamped shopping centre, new music venue, homes and wider town centre benefits will create thousands of new jobs and an unprecedented boost to the local economy.
Final designs have been shaped in consultation with local people, with thousands visiting the dedicated No.25 consultation hub inside Lewisham Shopping Centre over the past year. A cohort of local Design Champions worked with an award-winning design team to help shape the first two residential buildings.
As Landsec, we have been supporters of the local community for over 20 years as the owners of Lewisham Shopping Centre.
